Earlier this week, the Jazz issued a lifetime ban to fan Shane Keisel, having determined that a viral video in which Thunder guard Russell Westbrook threatened to beat up Keisel and his wife had been precipitated by Keisel directing racially-tinged comments at Westbrook during Monday night’s game.

In the wake of the incident, Jazz owner Gail Miller reminded fans before Thursday’s game against the Wolves that, “We have a Code of Conduct in this arena. It will be strictly enforced.”

It didn’t take long for that warning to prove true.

In the wake of the Keisel incident, another troubling video surfaced this week, in which a Jazz fan, before Game 4 of the team’s 2018 first-round playoff series against the Thunder, can be repeatedly heard calling Westbrook “boy.” The team announced Friday that it has subsequently investigated the incident and issued a lifetime ban to that unnamed fan as well.

Jazz president Steve Starks told The Tribune on Friday the team would investigate prior violations and consider additional retroactive bans.

“We’ll need to look into every situation if there’s video evidence, if it’s clear they’ve violated the Code of Conduct. We would review any of those situations,” he said. “One of the things that people may not realize is that the renovation allowed us to be more aware of what’s going on in the arena. We have a command center where we can see every seat in the arena, and we have video. It’s not to spy on people, but it’s to make sure that we’re taking care of guest services issues.”

Before and throughout Thursday’s game, the Jazz periodically flashed a message across the Jumbotron screens in the arena, which stated: “No disruptive behavior. Obscene language or gestures, fighting, throwing objects, attempting to enter the court or interrupting play. Spectators engaging in such behavior are subject to ejection and other penalties, including a lifetime ban.”

Jazz owner Gail Miller’s pregame address to fans about the code of conduct she expects and will enforce 1/2

Miller, meanwhile, delivered a heartfelt pregame statement in which she expressed dismay that Jazz fans’ behavior in general has been lumped in with that of Keisel: “This should never happen. We are not a racist community,” she said. “We believe in treating people with courtesy and respect as human beings.”

Miller also sent an email to fans before the game, spelling out precisely what will not be tolerated going forward: “We do not permit hate speech, racism, sexism or homophobia. We also do not allow disruptive behavior, including bullying, foul or abusive language, or obscene gestures.”

The 13-game closing stretch of the 2018-19 season that began for the Brooklyn Nets with Wednesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder is filled with some of the NBA’s top defensive teams.

The Thunder are one of them, ranked third in the league in defensive rating. It showed up down the stretch, when OKC limited Brooklyn to 18 points on 28.6 percent shooting in the fourth quarter. The Nets were outscored by 10 points in the fourth and lost 108-96.

“It’s a good lesson for this road trip, being able to handle the physicality when a team really turns it up like that,” said Nets coach Kenny Atkinson. “It’s on both sides of the ball. It’s taking care of the ball offensively and taking good shots. You’ve got to run your cuts a little better, you’ve got to screen a little better, everything’s got to be a little more perfect.”

Saturday’s opponent, the Utah Jazz, is dead even with the Thunder with the same defensive rating of 105.6. The rest of the Western Conference portion of the road trip doesn’t present as many high-ranking defensive teams, but the Nets (36-34) still have top-10 defensive teams Milwaukee, Indiana, Boston, Toronto and Philly on the schedule over their final seven games. It’s a challenge for a team that is 29th in the NBA in offensive rating (105.2) since the All-Star break.

“We have not been good offensively since the All-Star break,” said Atkinson. “So we’re going to have to look at it. I think our decision-making’s got to be a little quicker. I think we’re passing up shots quite honestly. Allen Crabbe, I would love for him to shoot nine threes tonight. I think to beat a team like this you’ve got to let it go when it’s open. I thought they had us on our heels a little bit where we were just a little slow on our decision making. Against (Oklahoma City), if you don’t have quick decision making they put you in a bind.”

Using the All-Star break as a starting point, it’s actually the Nets that have the NBA’s best defensive rating, 103.8. That’s helped them play to a 6-5 record during that stretch. For the full season, Brooklyn is 13th in the league in defensive rating (108.9) and 17th in offensive rating (108.8). That combination has them right in the middle of the NBA pack, No. 15 in net rating (-0.1).

“I don’t subscribe to the only defense wins championships,” said Atkinson. “You have to be good on both sides of the ball. I’ve always believed that. You need a good balance. So, happy we’re playing good defense. I’d like to see more balance. Our goal is to be in the top echelon in offensive efficiency and defensive efficiency.”

Guard Allen Crabbe will miss both Saturday night’s game against Utah and Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers after experiencing knee soreness. Crabbe has started Brooklyn’s last five games. He previously missed 26 games over two months with soreness in the same knee, returning in early February.

“It wasn’t like a specific movement, it wasn’t a specific play,” said Crabbe. “I guess three minutes left in the OKC game, that’s when I started feeling it. It flared up again. I already had some swelling in the knee. So we just drained it again, just did the little procedure. So go from there, really. It’s basically like the last couple things that we’ve done when I had the little pain in my knee. So, figure it out. Day-to-day, basically really.”

While the Nets will miss Crabbe, Kenny Atkinson said that DeMarre Carroll, Shabazz Napier and Treveon Graham were all probable to play against Utah on Saturday after missing time.

Spencer Dinwiddie led the Nets with 25 points in Oklahoma City, extending a stretch in which the Nets guard is now averaging 22.2 points over Brooklyn’s last five games while shooting 50.7 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3-point range, plus 4.2 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.

D’Angelo Russell is third in the NBA in assist percentage (38.5) behind just Russell Westbrook (43.1) and James Harden (39.5). Assist percentage is the percentage of teammate field goals a player assisted on while on the court. Russell is 12th in the league with 6.8 assists per game, but he’s averaging 7.6 over 32 games since Jan. 1.

The Jazz (39-29) are battling for playoff position in the west, vying with the Spurs and Clippers for the sixth seed. They’ve turned things around from a 9-12 start and gone 30-17 since visiting the Nets in late November. Utah is tied for third in the league in defensive rating (105.6). Center Rudy Gobert is first in the NBA in field goal percentage (65.1), fourth in rebounds (12.9), and fourth in blocks (2.3). Donovan Mitchell leads the Jazz with 23.6 points per game and averages 4.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds.

Boston is 28-13 against Eastern Conference foes and has been hot of late, winning five of its last seven games overall. The Hawks, meanwhile, are 11-24 on the road and 13-31 within the conference. The Celtics are led by guard Kyrie Irving (23.5 points per game), who’s already had two big games against the Hawks this season, scoring 56 total points.

Also a thorn in the Hawks’ side has been forward Jayson Tatum (16.1 points per game), who had 19 in the first meeting and 22 in the second.

But just because Boston has dominated the Hawks this season doesn’t guarantee it will cover the Celtics vs. Hawks spread on Saturday.

That’s because the Hawks are averaging 123.6 points over the last 11 games. They never trailed in a 132-111 win over Memphis on Wednesday. Atlanta has won two in a row, is 5-5 over the last 10 games, and has won three of its last five road games.

Forward-center John Collins (19.9 points per game) has been playing well of late. He had 27 against Memphis, 23 vs. New Orleans on March 10 and 33 vs. Brooklyn on March 9. Point guard Trae Young (18.3 ppg) also had a big game against the Grizzlies on Wednesday, scoring 22.

The Indiana Pacers and the Denver Nuggets duke it out at the Pepsi Center on Saturday night.

The Indiana Pacers haven’t been at their best as they’ve lost five of their last nine games, but they will be aiming for a third straight victory after sneaking past the Thunder in a 108-106 home win on Thursday. Domantas Sabonis led the team with 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists off the bench, Bojan Bogdanovic added 23 points with five assists while Darren Collison chipped in with 17 points and seven assists. As a team, the Pacers shot 45 percent from the field and seven of 22 from the 3-point line as they were sleepwalking against the Thunder in the first half until they clicked into gear after falling behind by as many as 18 points to steal the game on a Wesley Matthews tip in with just 1.8 seconds remaining. With the win, Indiana improved to 44-25 overall and 27-9 at home which is good for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets have been in similar form as they’ve lost four of their last seven games, but they too will be going for a third straight win after sneaking past the Mavericks in a thrilling 100-99 home win on Thursday. Paul Millsap had the hot hand for the Nuggets as he scored 33 points on 14 of 19 shooting, Jamal Murray added 12 points with seven assists while Nikola Jokic racked up 11 points with 14 rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot 48 percent from the field and eight of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled against the Mavericks for most of the game, falling behind by as many as 12 points early in the fourth quarter before they rallied to steal the game on a buzzer-beating game winner from Jokic. With the thrilling win, Denver improved to 45-22 overall and 29-6 at home.

Looking at the betting trends, the Pacers are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games, 1-7 ATS in their last eight against a team above .600 and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games playing on one days rest. The Nuggets are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games against a team with a winning road record, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss and 18-8 ATS in their last 26 home games.

Head to head, the over is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings in Denver, the Pacers are 2-5-1 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and 1-3-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Denver.

Both teams will be full of confidence after earning thrilling wins in their last outing, so I’m expect a good one here, especially because this is just the first meeting between the teams this season. Both teams are in similar form, but the Pacers are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team above .600, so I’m going to have to stick with the Nuggets who are always tough to beat at the Pepsi Center.
The Indiana Pacers face a tall task ahead in knocking off the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center in Saturday’s NBA action. Since losing to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Pacers have won back-to-back games against the Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are coming off two consecutive wins over the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Reserve forward Domantas Sabonis saved his best stuff for whenever the Pacers really needed it, and they really needed it on Thursday night against the Thunder. The Pacers had to scratch and claw their way back into the game after trailing for most of the first half. On a night where star forward Paul George scored 36 points for the Thunder, Sabonis was the unlikely hero to answer with a team-high 26-point performance.

However, his contributions weren’t limited to offensive scoring, as he also tied for a team-high seven rebounds and contributed four assists in the 108-106 win. The tipped in basket with 1.8 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter by Pacers guard Wesley Matthews was essentially the game-winner that iced things.

Bojan Bogdanovic finished the game with 23 points, four rebounds and five assists, while Darren Collison contributed 17 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals. The Pacers also forced 18 turnovers and shot a combined 45.1 percent from the floor.

All the Mavericks could do was watch in shock and absolute heartbreak as the Nuggets celebrated their second consecutive win, putting their recent 1-4 run completely in the rearview. The team shot a combined 48.1 percent from the floor, including going 8-of-29 from 3-pointer. They were only plus-one in rebounding, and they turned the ball over 11 times.

While Jokic clearly had the shot of the night, forward Paul Millsap was the player of the game with 33 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Jokic finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists in the 100-99 win.
A six-game slate made up the NBA schedule for Thursday night.

To start things off, the Oklahoma City Thunder looked like a juggernaut in the opening half, but the Indiana Pacers ended up outscoring the Thunder, 58-43, in the second half to come away with a huge victory. The Pacers now hold a half-game lead for the third seed over the Philadelphia 76ers in a tight Eastern Conference playoff race.

The Boston Celtics also came away with a hard-fought win over the Sacramento Kings, despite trailing by double-digits in the first half.

Later, the Los Angels Lakers continued to struggle as they fell to the Toronto Raptors north of the border. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 25 points and knocked down five 3-pointers in a Toronto victory.

The night ended with a bang as the Denver Nuggets came from behind to defeat the Dallas Mavericks. Star big man Nikola Jokic knocked down the game-winning shot as time expired to give the Nuggets an impressive win. Now the Nuggets trail the Golden State Warriors by just one game for the top seed in the Western Conference.

Here is everything you need to know about Thursday’s action, along with Friday’s schedule.

The 21-year veteran didn’t score again, but the early burst provided a glimpse of excitement in what eventually became the a 112-105 loss, the Mavericks’ sixth straight defeat and 12th in their last 14 games.

While the Mavericks have looked toward the future since early February, when the franchise traded all starters aside from star rookie Luka Doncic for Kristaps Porzingis and several role players they hope will form a playoff- and championship-contending core, Nowitzki’s scoring spurt, and his pursuit of another milestone, offered another reminder of what’s left to aim for and appreciate this season.

Before the game, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich lauded Nowitzki’s impact, especially as a trailblazer for international players, including teammates Doncic and Porzingis.

“Dirk is a spectacular example of a competitor on the court but a great human being all at the same time,” Popovich said. “He competed with a ferocity. He loved winning. He hated losing. But he’s classy in the sense that he knew how to do both.”By the time Nowitzki faces Popovich again in the season finale April 10 in San Antonio — perhaps the final contest in Nowitzki’s career — the German superstar likely will have surpassed Chamberlain’s scoring mark (31,419 points).

Though his 5.7 scoring average entering Tuesday falls well below his career norm, Nowitzki has said his mobility and comfort level has improved in recent weeks.

Plus, he’s scored 29 points in his last three outings, a rate that puts him on pace to accomplish the feat March 18 at home against the New Orleans Pelicans. While the NBA fined Westbrook $25,000 for his role in the exchange and the Jazz permanently banned the fan, Popovich said Tuesday he understands the difficulties players sometimes face when representing the league but enduring harsh interactions with spectators.

Carlisle said he hadn’t paid attention to the fallout, and declined to comment. Portland shooting guard C.J. McCollum is in the midst of an outstanding run and will look to keep it going this weekend. McCollum has scored at least 25 points in each of the past four games, including a 35-point performance in Tuesday’s 125-104 road win over the Clippers. McCollum missed his first seven shots against the Clippers but later exploded for 23 fourth-quarter points as Portland opened a three-game road trip on a high note. He was the beneficiary of the defense locking in on point guard Damian Lillard and was 6-of-11 from three-point range during his latest scoring binge.

“I don’t ever get gun-shy,” McCollum commented. “I’ve missed a lot of shots in my career and percentage-wise you’re going to miss more than you make, especially from (3-point range). You just have to stay confident, stay aggressive and know who you are. I’m very comfortable with who I am as a basketball player and a person, so I just go out there and try to be my best self.”

“I’ve heard lots of things that have been thrown out there,” Popovich said, “that are over the line and inappropriate, and under normal circumstances out on the street would demand some sort of a response.”

Warriors vs Thunder

Warriors vs Thunder : Warriors seek road rhythm in comfortable confines of OKC vs Thunder. Since the NBA All-Star break, Golden State is just 5-5 and yet to win consecutive games. Warriors listed Kevin Durant as questionable for Saturday’s game in Oklahoma City. With the season closing quickly, Golden State is still looking for that secret switch to flip.

Warriors vs Thunder Live Stream: How to Watch NBA 2019 Online Free HD TV Coverage

HOUSTON – Kevin Durant is listed as questionable for Saturday’s matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, coach Steve Kerr announced Friday afternoon. The Warriors star, who injured his ankle Sunday in a loss against the Suns, went through a full practice Friday at the University of Houston and will use Saturday’s shootaround and pregame to determine whether he’ll play against the Thunder. Later Friday afternoon, Kerr told 95.7 The Game that Durant is ‘doubtful’ for Saturday’s game.

Any time KD plays in Oklahoma City, the stakes of the game get a little higher. Durant, of course, played for the Thunder franchise for nine seasons before leaving for the Warriors in the summer of 2016. Durant’s first visit back to Chesapeake Energy Arena in 2017 was quite emotional, but the scene has calmed down a bit since.

The Warriors, meanwhile, impressively beat the Rockets without Durant on Wednesday. Andre Iguodala started in Durant’s place vs. Houston, and it appears likely he would start again if KD isn’t healthy enough to play Saturday.

After a nail-biting win in Houston that came down to the final seconds, the Warriors head to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder. This will be the final game in the three-game season series; both of the previous games were at Oracle Arena, and each team won one game apiece. Now, the Warriors make their lone visit to Oklahoma City to face-off against the team currently tied for third in the Western Conference. The Dubs will look to keep up the momentum in Saturday’s primetime showdown against a well-rounded Thunder squad.

The Warriors hung on in the final seconds of Wednesday’s game to beat the Houston Rockets 106-104. DeMarcus Cousins had 27 points and dished-out eight assists, both season highs. Klay Thompson posted 30 points, and Stephen Curry added 24 points. The Warriors missing a superstar is obviously a little different than most teams. They still have four All-Stars in their starting lineup without Durant.

However, Durant is one of the very best players in the NBA , so they clearly take a hit when he’s out. The 30-year-old is averaging 27.4 points to go along with 5.7 assists and 6.7 rebounds per game this season. It’s easy to see why his absence would be felt.

This is also a game many would hope Durant would be able to play in. Even though there doesn’t seem to be any real problems between the two anymore, a Durant vs. Russell Westbrook match will always be entertaining.

The two were teammates for eight seasons and led the Thunder on some pretty fantastic runs. OKC made it to one NBA Finals with the two and then came close in 2016, only to blow a 3-1 advantage against Golden State. Of course, Durant jumped ship to join the Warriors after that series, and he has since won two championships.

The Warriors and Thunder are 1-1 against each other this year, but Westbrook didn’t play in the game OKC lost. Let’s hope Durant is able to suit up for this one.

The Thunder are led by the duo of Russell Westbrook and Paul George. A two-time scoring champion and former MVP, Westbrook is averaging a triple-double per game with 23.2 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game. George, a six-time All-Star, is averaging a career-highs in points (28.2), rebounds (8.1), and assists (4.2). The Dubs will need to contain the two of them to keep the Thunder, currently ranked fourth in points-per-game at just under 115 per game, in check. Besides being a high-scoring team though, Oklahoma City is also fourth in the league in defensive rating. The team is well-rounded on both sides of the ball and will make the Warriors work to earn a win.
